Many of you may have seen or heard about an article run by local papers and news sites this past Sunday. As a youth soccer organization we are concerned about the circumstances. We take this opportunity to clarify and to correct the articles and the circumstances. Efforts to assist AYSO San Pedro Region 6 in programs and training from all levels of the Organization have been ongoing over the last few years.
1. AYSO has not left San Pedro nor has San Pedro decided to “cut ties with AYSO.” AYSO has 50 years of history in the San Pedro community and is committed to continuing to create soccer playing opportunities for youth. The Field of Dreams Development was partially funded by AYSO, as noted in the article. AYSO looks forward to a continued partnership with the community of San Pedro and the City of Los Angeles to provide a safe, fun, and positive soccer environment for all.
2. There is new leadership for AYSO San Pedro Region 6 with lifelong San Pedro resident, Nicole Padilla, appointed as the Regional Commissioner. She has experience with other non-profit organizations and is fully committed, in concert with the new Area Director and with support of all levels of AYSO, to provide the children and families of the San Pedro community with the AYSO experience. The AYSO experience is based on our Six Philosophies and includes a transparent and collaborative management of the local program focused on the development of the youth player. We look forward to the upcoming registrations for the 2017 Fall Season and we thank you, the families of AYSO Region 6, for your continued support of soccer in San Pedro.
